MONEY - First, we NEVER take money up front. If you are getting a quote for any sort of building project or home repair, and the person who wants to do the work can’t even afford to get started without money from you, you need to look elsewhere. I’ve talked to too many customers who paid money up front and never saw the person again. It is okay to make progress payments to someone who has already completed more work than they want to be paid for, but never, never, never pay money up front for work that has not been done.
REPUTATION - A builder who can’t provide a list of solid references for recent work is not someone you want to hire. You can check our reputation with the BBB and with Angie’s List, both of which will provide references to the character of our business.
A “JACK OF ALL TRADES?” - Avoid the guy who ‘does it all.’ This applies to tile, roofing, decks, cabinets or anything else. Because we are professional deck builders, we have a lot of experience in building decks, and will often be able to price the job better because we are efficient and knowledgable about deck work. Furthermore, we regularly attend trade shows and subscribe to publications for our industry. We are constantly striving to improve our building techniques to give you the best deck possible.
